ARTISTIC STYLE
Over the years, learning and exploring different art forms and experimenting with techniques, materials, and tools, in the most unconventional of ways, allowed me to discover my individual artistic style.
I always think in concepts and see in colour palettes and patterns. I love colour and I have never been afraid of using unusual colour combinations and layering pattern on pattern. However, I also adore the use of monochromatic and related coloured schemes where necessary. Understanding colour theory and the power of selecting a specific colour palette & tone to articulate a certain mood is a very effective tool in art practice.
I like to deconstruct and reconstruct discarded garments, cloths, papers and cardboard boxes, hand printing and dying on the surface and then mixing and matching different textures, colours, and patterns to form something new which I view as objects of unusual beauty. Collage is a common thread throughout my work, where I move across surfaces applying this technique in my own unique way.
Figurative drawing is another strong element in my artwork, where I love to adorn the figure with collaged botanical kimonos, gowns and jackets, which are made from repeat patterns I’ve designed, photos I’ve captured, marks I’ve made and colours I’ve mixed, with a highly emotive story behind the art. How I interpret shape, line, texture, and form derives from my extensive work as a landscape designer, drafting plans and looking at things through different 2D and 3D perspectives.
