The poppy flower symbolizes many things in different cultures, but is widely recognized to represent the brave soldiers who died in war. Poppies often grow in disturbed soil, such as battlefields, so they can symbolize hope, regeneration, and life after tragedy. When reading through the hundreds of love letters and poems I have inherited from my ancestors who went to war, I found this little poem to preserve… “Down in a corner of the garden of my heart, a delicate little poppy flower is growing there apart, and should you ask about it, as I should like you too, you’ll find that I have named it in memory of you”. We shall never forget those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
