COLLECTION: Preservation

I have always had a deep appreciation for the natural flora of the Dandenong Ranges. Each year, I look forward to the blooming season, when migratory birds, butterflies, native bees, and a diverse array of indigenous wildflowers flourish in and beyond my backyard. Early-spring nectar plants play a vital role in supporting beneficial pollinators, helping to sustain the abundance of life that characterises the season. Witnessing a vibrant tapestry of wings flitting among the blossoms and feeding together creates truly magical moments in time. Yet these experiences also serve as a gentle reminder that Australia’s indigenous flowers are facing increasing challenges from habitat loss, invasive species, climate change, and other environmental pressures. Protecting and restoring native plant communities is essential if future generations are to enjoy the same seasonal wonders, ecological richness, and natural beauty that we cherish today.
